The Tribal Cultural Heritage of India Foundation
Established in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in 2008.
The aim of this non-profit organization is to contribute to the documentation
of India’s tribal cultural heritage, especially aspects of oral
traditions, traditional knowledge and material culture that may be valuable
for the cultural identity of tribal people (the adivasi). The Foundation
will focus special attention on children and youth.
The Foundation’s mission is:
- to provide documentation on local culture
- to make this documentation accessible to those
who can put it to the best use: the local people themselves.
The Foundation will actively work in the field to collect the necessary
information. It will collaborate with existing organisations and institutions
in India and beyond (museums, universities, and NGOs) and local communities
to build up a database and communication web.
The Foundation’s initial focus is on the Gonds (especially the
Madia Gonds) people.
This website www.tribal-india.org is a pilot, it will be extended in
the future.
